9 May 2020 – School Tests

Oh no, it’s national school test week. Ollie has test to do as part of the national assessment. The school are great and downplay the tests. They don’t make a big deal the children sit them in class similar to normal school work. Ollie is a bit talkative about it though and mentions the tests a few times. All Ollie needs is a bit of reassurance from Mum & Dad that it’s OK to just do your best.

Charlie is having none of it though. Charlie starts denouncing the tests, telling Ollie that she doesn’t want him to take part. Young children shouldn’t be tested and the school is unfair to put Ollie through this. It’s pretty much the worst thing to say to a child seeking affirmation. I’m cringing inside but I know there is no point challenging Charlie because she will just increase her anti-anything stance whilst Ollie is still present listening.

At bedtime, I catch Ollie in bed and offer some re-assuring words. Charlie is straight outside the bedroom though and as soon as I leave, Charlie is back talking to Ollie and trying to re-enforce her own views.
